New Homes 6/7 Star + Rating

The Nationwide House Energy Rating Scheme (NatHERS) measures a home’s energy efficiency to generate a star rating. A star rating system is from 1-10 and rates the energy efficiency by considering the home’s heating and cooling energy use, orientation, climate, and overall design. This assessment aims to help residents in designing the most cost effective and energy efficient home, while keeping optimal comfort.

Your new home design will be assessed using the latest FirstRate5 version software and a 6 star + rating will be achieved. Should your design not achieve the minimum 6 star rating requirements, additional recommendations and solutions will be offered at NO EXTRA COST until we achieve the required result. We have a quick turn around time and all reporting and certification will be electronically lodged to you for your convenience.

Deemed to Satisfy Reports

A Deemed to Satisfy Report (DTS) is an assessment which will determine your building’s ability to comply with the minimum star rating required by your climate zone. This is accompanied by a BCA glazing calculator which will assist users with calculations required to meet the energy efficiency of the National Construction code (NCC).

At Compliance Energy Rating, we comply with the Building Commission requirements and offer whole house compliance or partial compliance depending on your design. In addition, our comprehensive Deemed to Satisfy Reports NCC 3.12 are easy to understand and offer summary of report outlining requirements.

Extension/Renovations Comparative Reports

This report consists of two assessments to be completed. One, on the existing dwelling and one, on the proposed dwelling with the alterations included. This assessment will display the star rating required from the proposed dwelling needing to comply.

Section J Reports

Section J reports demonstrate the energy requirements needed for commercial buildings. These refer to Classes 3, 5, 7, 8 and 9 of the National Construction Code (NCC) for non-residential buildings. This report will measure the compliance of developments such as boarding houses, guest houses, hostels, lodging houses, commercial, retail, apartments, and backpacker accommodation.

At Compliance Energy Rating, we produce comprehensive Part J Reports for commercial buildings that are very detailed yet easy to understand. We cover all aspects of the NCC Part J including Facade/ Glazing and Lighting Calculation Reporting.

ESD Reporting

This refers to a detailed sustainability assessment of a project in which infrastructure is designed to achieve minimal impact on the environment while meeting ecological criteria required to achieve council objectives. Assessments within ESD reports include Sustainable Design Assessment (SDA), Built Environment Sustainability Scorecard (BESS), STORM reports and Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) reports.

BASIX Certification (NSW)
The Building Sustainability Index (BASIX) is a sustainability assessment tool introduced by the NSW government in 2004, to help combat greenhouse gas emissions and encourage sustainable building practices. BASIX sets certain performance targets for water and energy use and efficiency which must be met by new residential developments, as well as residential additions or alterations. BASIX is considered one of the strongest and most effective sustainable planning measures to be undertaken within Australia. By reducing water consumption and energy use, it also helps to provide significant, ongoing financial savings to homeowners.

A BASIX certificate details three aspects of the development:

  • Water usage

  • Thermal comfort (i.e. how much energy is required to heat or cool the home throughout the year)

  • Energy usage

The assessment is undertaken using the BASIX online tool, and is usually completed by an ESD consultant. The  commitments made on the BASIX certificate will form part of the conditions of consent issued by the development approval authority. Any changes to these commitments (e.g. change in the size of the water tanks) will need to be reassessed to ensure compliance is still being met.
